Kye jumped
over the small brick wall in one hop and without support from his hand. He
turned around and looked at me. “Come on, Amelia. We don’t have the whole day”
he gestured a hand towards me, but I reclined. “Not going to need help” I said
while I took a few steps back, before setting in a sprint over the wall. But I
did need support from my hand. I was athletic, yes, but I didn’t practice
parkour as Kye did. And I sure as hell didn’t take chances. “Such a chicken”
Kye laughed. “I’m not a chicken, Kye. I’m just not a daredevil as you are. Some
of us like to keep our lives” I growled. “And yet you are here, out on a
mission with me” I could see his smirk, even that his head was hide behind the
hoodie. “Only because we are the best, and I’m the only one who can stick it up
with your ego” I gave back, and heard his low chuckle.
We sneaked down the small alleys, before we got to our destination. Our job wasn’t completely legal, since we were stealing jewelry and crystals. And this night wasn’t any more different than another. Kye and I were the best in our clans, because of our skills. Both of us were equally skilled in fighting and athletics. Kye was the master in getting any physical lock open just with some few tools, and I was the master in getting behind any digital locks. So we were more than often paired together on missions, and as I said to Mister Ego himself, I was the only one who could stick up with him. Kye was about to walk out on the streets, but I stopped him. “Wait a minute” I said and straightened my back from the crumpling through the shadows. I took my backpack off, and then I took my coat off and handed it to Kye. “Hold it” I said, “Amelia, what are you doing? We don’t have time for this” Kye scolded. “Shut up and listen. We can’t go into that party unless we are looking like someone who is going to attend one. You already go black pants and sweater, so put this blazer on” I said and handed him a blazer from the backpack. “And what are you going to wear? You are in the exact same suit as I am” he asked. “This one” I pulled out a long sleeveless women’s shirt in black with a sparkly collar made of rhinestones. I heard a low whistle come from him, and I couldn’t help but smile. Quickly I threw my sweater off and put the shirt on. I duck down in the backpack once more and found a small pullover. Thank God, it was one of those warm evenings in the fall. I put our clothes in the backpack and hid it behind the container in the alley, before I let my hair fall loose. I collected it at the one side, and put some pins in my hair to keep it together. When I was ready Kye was giving me a look from head to toe. “Get over yourself, please” I said and took a small purse, which was already packed with our tools. “Are you ready now?” Kye asked with crossed arms and a smirk plastered on his face. “Yes, I am. Let’s go” I answered, “This way, my lady” he said, and held an arm out for me. I looked at him, give ham a small laugh and then hooked my arm under his.
It was easy to get into the party, since it was public for all with a good number on their bank account. And with the money the company had earned over the years, there was no problem in that. We walked arm in arm through the big doors to the ballroom, and the party was already going on. Drinks, music and dancing people were all over the floor. Kye turned his head at me. “Up there. In the left corner of the balcony” I followed his direction and saw our goal of the mission. We were here to get a hold of a Rubin necklace, and it was at the balcony in a showcase with two guards protecting it. “Ready to action, my lady?” Kye asked, again with his famous smirk. “Oh, I’m ready, my dear” I smiled back. Even though, that Kye and I didn’t were very fond of each other, I couldn’t complain about being on a mission with him. We understood every move and tactic we made. We could be so in sync on a mission, and so much out of sync when we were back in the headquarter. Kye escorted me to the back room with the couches, where we would be left alone. I sat down with Kye by my side, and out of nowhere he put a hand on my thigh right above my knee. I was about to say something to him, when he leaned to my ear. “Just go with it, Amelia. We are in the cuddle couches. People will suspect things, if we don’t show at least some affection to each other” he whispered. I leaned my mouth close to his ear and laid my hand on his arm. “Are you sure that you don’t just say that, so you could get a chance to touch me?” I could feel him shiver under me. “You wish” he mocked me and took a firm grip at my thigh. Under normal circumstances, I would have said something, but by the way Kye tensed up in the whole body, I knew there was something wrong. I followed his eyes to see what made him so tense.
I let out a gasp, when I saw who it was that Kye had got an eye on in the crowd of people. “What the fuck is Aiden doing here?” he said under his breath. This time it was me that had to take a firm grip at him, and I held him back at his arm. “Don’t do anything stupid, Kye. We are here to get the necklace and nothing else. You will be dead if Aiden gets a hold of you” I said and looked him in the eyes. He returned my look and let out a sigh. “You know that this makes it harder to get the necklace? We can’t just do it like we normally do. I can’t distract the guards, because Aiden knows my tricks so well. And it’s not like we just can switch parts, because you are a hell of a lot good with codes” Kye said, and I could see how nervous he was starting to get. “That was one really rare compliment, Kye. But we can switch parts, because I can program the USB to do the job itself. You just have to put it in the computer. In the meanwhile I will distract Aiden and the guards” I explained. “That’s a really good plan, but you can’t just sit in the opening and program it” he said. “That’s what acting is for. I will turn my upper body to the wall, while you make it look like you caress my side and neck, so they can’t see what I’m doing. But make sure your head isn’t visible to Aiden” I told him. Kye’s famous smirk was on again. “We are in the dark, Amelia, no one can see us” I didn’t respond to it, but just let my hand fall to his chest. “Prove it” I teased him, before I turned my head into the dark and found my purse and flipped it opened. I felt Kye’s hand began to caress me up and down my side, while his other hand was still on my thigh. Quickly I took my small device out of the purse and began clicking away on it, and I was thankful for the loud music. “Have long do you need?” I heard Kye whisper in my ear, and I couldn’t help to smile a bit at the two ways meaning in his words. His breath was so close to my exposed neck, that it sent shivers through me. “Enjoying it?” he laughed, and because he was so close I could feel his smile against my skin. “Stop it, you jerk. We have three minutes to the program is ready” I told him. I couldn’t resist it, so I laid my hand on his shoulder and gave it a small squeeze. He turned his head towards me and looked a slight confused at me. I leaned my forehead against his and closed my eyes for a second. “I trust you in this, Kye” I said and opened my eyes to look at him. “And I trust you, Amelia” he said and moved his hand to my cheek, where he nuzzled it shortly. We didn’t say anything. We just sat there and looked each other in the eyes, while his thumb still nuzzled my cheek. Three minutes later the device gave us the clear sound, and I took the USB out of my purse and handed it to Kye. He held my hand a little bit longer than necessary. I stood up and began walking over to Aiden and the guards, hoping that the plan really would work.

It’s not much, but it’s probably more than the rest of the girls in this room” I laughed at my own little joke. “A girl with brain and humor, that’s more like it” Aiden laughed with me. “Can I invite you on a glass of champagne?” he asked and held out a glass for me, but I declined. “I don’t drink alcohol, Mr. Macal. I like to keep my brain cells instead of losing them to liquids as most of these girls do” The real reason was that I didn’t trust the liquid in the glass, nor the man who held it out to me. I really wanted to know how long Kye was with the program, so I took a look around, as in admiring of the room. I glanced up at the balcony, because that was the main reason for everyone to be here tonight. But I got a shock and looked directly back at Aiden, who had an evil smile on his lips. “You can’t fool me. Your little programming was smart, but my sensors picked it up as soon as you began. And your little play in the couch can’t fool me. I knew it was Kye as soon as I saw him” Aiden was quick and soon had a grip on my wrist. Kye was been forced down the stairs by the two guards, and his eyes were shooting with lightning, when he saw Aiden’s grip on me. “Let her go!” he yelled at Aiden. “Oh well hello Kye. I was wondering when you would show up” Aiden grinned at him like it was a good joke. “I said, let her go!” Kye yelled again and tried to break free from the guards, but it was hopeless. No matter how much battle fight Kye had then those guys was twice his size. “You mean this little precious?” Aiden pulled at my arm and held me tight against his body. “I think I will keep her in my safety box” he said and sniffed my perfume in the crook of my neck. This time I didn’t hold back a face, because he was seriously disgusting. “You wish, pretty boy” I told him sarcastic. “Feisty are we? I like that” Aiden smiled and then he suddenly placed a kiss on my neck, and I felt a shiver go through me. It wasn’t the same shiver I felt, as when Kye had touched me. With Kye I had felt the warmth deep inside me. With Aiden, I just felt creeped out. “Eww” I said out loud, which earned a laugh from Kye. “See, Aiden? There was a reason, that I was the lady’s man back in college, and not you” Kye laughed at Aiden and that did the trick.
Aiden got so angry, that he totally forgot to hold me captured. And that’s all what I needed, and Kye knew that. I took a short sprint, before I jumped high in the air and grabbed the bars at the balcony and pulled myself up. Quickly I got around to the computer and plucked in the USB, which I had the whole time. I entered the password and turned on the fire alarm, which started the automatic sprinklers. “You forgot something, Aiden. There is a reason, that we are the best at our job. Fake it till you make it!” I yelled down to him. In the same moment Kye had knocked down the two guards and had Aiden pinned against the wall. “You will never get the necklace! If you touch the showcase, you will get a serious damaged!” Aiden laughed at us. Kye turned his head up to me and I could see he was bewildered. When I took a step forward to the showcase, he yelled at me. “No, Amelia! It’s not worth it, let’s get out of here!” I couldn’t believe that Kye would give up our mission like that. I looked back and forth between Kye and the showcase. “Get down here now and forget that stupid necklace!” he yelled at me, clearly frustrated. I gripped the bars for support and hopped down from the balcony. As soon as I landed, Aiden pushed really hard at Kye, and pulled a knife out from a holder at his foot wrist. Of course he was so cheesy to have a knife instead of a gun. Kye scrambled on to his legs and I ran to him. His arms went around me as soon I was in reach of him, like he wanted to protect me. “You really thought you could out smart me?” Aiden said angry. “We already did that, Aiden. Look who set the fire alarm on” Kye yelled back, and once again I felt his body tense at my side. “Kye, let’s get out of here, before the police comes” and gently pulled at this blazer. I wanted to get out of here as fast as possible. Suddenly Aiden threw the knife at us, and if wasn’t because of Kye’s fast reflects, it will have hit me directly in my stomach. Instead it just made a deep superficial cut in my side. Kye took a firm grip on me and dragged me with him, guided the way out of the building and down to the alley where my backpack was. I have never seen him get out of a mission so quickly before.
Back in the alley I leaned against the building, while I clenched my hands to my side, because the cut really hurt a lot. Kye was standing beside me with one hand on the wall and another clenching his stomach, trying to get air after the running. I winced, when I tried to turn to him, and he noticed. He straightening himself up and looked at me. “Are you okay?” he asked and I nodded, but that just sent pain through me. “Let me see” he commanded and stood close to me. I removed my hands and let him pulled my shirt up. He examined the wound, and I winced when I felt him stretch it a bit. “I’m sorry” he said, and I could hear the regret in his voice. “Stand still. I will find the bandages” I could hear him rustling around to get the backpack out. A few minutes later he was back with me. “I need to rinse it and it’s going to hurt. Hold on to me” he instructed me, and I took a firm grip on his shoulder. He didn’t lie when he said that it was going to hurt. I hissed curses at him, while I squeezed tight at his shoulder. He quickly put the bandages on and stood up. “There. Finished” I rolled my eyes at the pain, and was thankful that it was over. “God damn it. How can you hold up with all the damages you get?” I asked him. “It’s not always I can hold up with it” he said and put his hand at my cheek, and his thumb began nuzzling me. I locked eyes with ham, and felt how my breath was taken away, because I have never felt this way around him before. “I was really worried for you in there, Amelia. I know what type of guy Aiden is. It’s not just something you can understand through a file. So it really scared me, when he got a hold of you” he told me, his voice was a little shaken. I knew that he meant it from his heart. “I’m always safe, when you are around, Kye” I admitted. “But you weren’t in there. I could have brought you in danger, if the plan didn’t work!” it comes frustrated from him. “Kye, I weren’t. You were there, like you always are” I said and rested my hand on his chest. I noticed how close we stood, and smiled by the thought that this was the second time tonight, that we were this close. His hands on my body and his breath on my neck earlier went right to my mind and got me blushing. I rested my head on his hand, closed my eyes and just enjoyed the feeling of him this close. “Amelia” he said, and I opened my eyes to look up at him. “You always say that you are safe when I’m around. I never told you that it was the same thing for me. You keep me from jumping into bad situations. You, Amelia, keep me safe” he told me with a soft voice, before he finally closed the last space between us and kissed me.
